Here are the values that we hold highest as a church. These values shape every ministry we have and provide our motivation for why we exist as a church and do the things we do. Blessing Our Neighbors - In Genesis 12-15 God promises Abraham that his descendants would be a blessing to the whole world. Through Jesus that blessing came true and now we too are called to be a blessing to the whole world. The parable of the Good Samaritan teach us that everyone is our neighbor. We take this very seriously as a church and we truly want to be a blessing to our community and to as many people in this world as God will allow us. We seek to demonstrate this value by investing in our local community through service projects, helping those in material need, investing in youth and children, and being the best neighbors we can be. Welcoming All With Grace - Jesus demonstrated true hospitality as he continually welcomed sinners, tax collectors, prostitutes, the lame, and the forgotten into his presence and offered them grace and healing with his embrace. Jesus was never afraid to comfort the afflicted or to touch those the world considered unclean. We as a church want to be known as a place where anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, socio-economic status, religious background or health is welcomed and accepted. We seek to demonstrate this value by making our church a place where all feel welcome and by seeking out those who long to be embraced and extending God's grace to them. Encouraging Continual Transformation - The really beautiful thing about being embraced by God is that God accepts just as we are, like the prodigal son coming home, but he doesn't leave us like he finds us. God desires for all of us to be new creations. This process of becoming a new creation is a life long journey of becoming more like Jesus in everything we do. The church talks about this journey in different ways, sanctification, holiness, perfecting love, fully devoted followers of Christ, there are lots of ways to talk about the journey of a disciple. What is important to us as a church is that we all are called to continually live in a place where we are allowing the Spirit to shape us. We seek to demonstrate this value by encouraging everyone who calls DCC home towards Christ through the teaching of the word, through small groups and discipleship classes, and through the transforming power of prayer that is the key to this life of a disciiple. Everyone Passionately Ministering - One of the really incredible things about the God we serve is that God continually chooses the least likely people to accomplish the most incredible things. The Apostle Peter goes so far as to say that God wants each of us to serve as a Royal Priesthood, a Holy Nation, that serves the world and directs people to their creator. We place a high value on each person in our church finding their spiritual passion, equipping them to use it, and finding an opportunity for them to do so. We are a church whose ministries are driven not from the top down but from the bottom up. We demonstrate this value by investing in the ministries our people are passionate about and by working to help each person find an area of passionate ministry. Inspiring Hope Today - At the core of our faith is an astounding belief that God through Jesus Christ offers hope to all people, in all places, in all time. It is impossible for the gospel message of Jesus Christ to be irrelevant for anyone. With this knowledge comes a responsibility to do everything we can to inspire this hope from Christ in the lives of our generation. We demonstrate this value by being a church of change. We are not afraid to change our methodology, strategies, language, staff or facility to better communicate this message of hope. We are more committed to inspiring hope than we are to living in comfort.
